Achnagairn Castle & Estate, Inverness, Scotland
Achnagairn Castle’s vaulted ballroom was build in 1912, for the then-owner’s daughter’s 21st birthday party! We imagine it was quite the celebration…
What's So Special About Achnagairn Castle & Estate?
Achnagairn Castle & Estate Achnagairn Castle is a private wedding venue in the Highlands, bursting with character.
Nestled on a private 5* estate outside Inverness, weddings always last two nights or more, to allow you the time to really drink things in.
There are a few core principles to Achnagairn’s approach to make weddings truly extraordinary.
Total flexibility: it’s your wedding. It should be exactly as you’d like it. Whether perfectly intimate or gloriously decadent, it’s up to you.
Glorious spaces: Achnagairn’s design is one of its USPs. The ballroom is the ideal romantic spot for your ceremony, meal and to dance the night away for up to 200 people.
Something so special shouldn’t be over in a flash: have a relaxed meal on the first night for everyone to meet and mingle; the magical day of the wedding itself, and time for breakfast together the morning after.
Space for everyone: Achnagairn can sleep up to 130 guests, with 24 luxury castle bedrooms and a further 35 rooms on the estate. No need for taxis at midnight!
The best of traditions: from kilts to ceilidhs and Highland Games to Hog Roasts, build in memorable activities for your Scottish wedding.
A unique location: you might not be from the Highlands, or even from Scotland, but a weekend at Achnagairn is unforgettable. The castle is easy to get to from across the UK – just half an hour from Inverness airport!
The castle as it now stands was built circa 1812, but in 1912, it had a rather significant addition… it’s magnificent vaulted ballroom, which was built for the then-owner’s 21st birthday party, as the poor dear had nowhere to host her festivities! The only one of it’s kind in the Highlands, you could not hope for a more magical place to tie the knot.
Each bedroom on the estate is unique: individually designed with its own name and theme. Some are more traditional: wood panelled and luxurious, with four-poster beds and original antiques; others are quirkier and more contemporary: a round bedroom with a round bed and bath, for instance! The bridal suite, is a haven of calm, this suite of 70 square metres is enormously spacious, suffused in light and boasting an enormous 4 poster bed.
The reception rooms at Achnagairn castle have the same diverse feel as its bedrooms. Whilst some of the rooms are steeped in tradition, others have a strong contemporary feel.
A castle wedding in the Scottish highlands couldn’t look any more appealing.

“Weddings at Achnagairn are run slightly differently from elsewhere. Rather than simply renting a room for your reception and wedding banquet, we operate on an exclusive use basis, meaning that for the entirety of your stay, the castle is yours and yours alone! This includes the gardens, all the reception rooms, the ballroom, and the many bedrooms – you are truly the Laird and Lady of all you survey! How many rooms do you have? Whether you’re planning a smaller or larger wedding, we can accommodate everyone! There are 66 bedrooms on the estate (24 in the castle, and 42 further bedrooms in the “Mini Manors” on the grounds of the estate, a stone’s throw from the castle), meaning we can sleep up to around 130 people, so there is no need for midnight taxis back to hotels. Each bedroom in Achnagairn Estate is unique… and bursting with character! In both the castle and the Mini Manors, every bedroom has been individually designed with its own name and theme. Some are more traditional: wood panelled and luxurious, with four-poster beds and original antiques; others are quirkier and more contemporary: a round bedroom with a round bed and bath, for instance!”
What Couples Say
Amazing wedding venue run by absolutely incredible staff! My wife and I got married at Achnagairn in May 2023 and rented the castle for the whole weekend from Friday to Sunday. The whole weekend could not have gone better, we honestly could not say one bad thing about this place and people. Everything was perfect from start to finish and the staff here did an amazing job, so professional, welcoming, helpful, accommodating, friendly, the list goes on….! Achnagairn really does have weddings nailed and we would highly highly recommend every couple to consider Achnagairn as a wedding venue. It was perfect for our wedding size, all our guests were able to stay on the estate between the castle and all the mini manors. With everyone staying so close it made the whole weekend even more special, intimate and relaxed as nobody had to worry about taxis / hotels etc. All the accommodation in the castle and manors was great, super spacious, clean and had all the amenities you need. Lots of our guests commented on how nice the accommodation and rooms were. And the ballroom is truly spectacular!! Thank you so much Achnagairn for a truly incredible weekend that we will remember forever! 🙂

“Our wedding at Achnagairn was an absolute dream come true, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend to celebrate with all our loved ones. The fact that all our guests were able to stay on-site made it an unforgettable experience for everyone. The venue was so close to town (~15min) but yet felt so far away from everything. The staff’s attentiveness and warm hospitality were exceptional, ensuring that every detail was flawlessly executed. Nicola, specifically, was so calm and collected and always made us feel like everything was going perfectly (which it did). The rooms were so amazing, and the bathrooms were SO STUNNING, which is crazy as a highlight – but wait till you see them. Having breakfast each morning in the family dining room was surprisingly my favorite part of the whole weekend. Guests were able to sit and chat with people they may not know, and eat a wonderful breakfast served by the kindest staff. It was such an amazing experience, and we had the most amazing wedding. We will cherish the memories created at Achnagairn forever, and we highly recommend it to couples seeking a truly magical and inclusive wedding experience.”
