What's So Special About Castello di Petrata?

Castello di Petrata – An Umbrian Estate for Gathered, Open-Air Celebrations

Set within the Umbrian countryside, just outside Assisi, Castello di Petrata feels quietly embedded in its landscape โ€“ a historic estate surrounded by rolling hills, woodland and open views that shift with the light. The atmosphere is distinctly Italian yet restrained, where stone buildings, considered gardens and long natural lines create a setting that feels both established and at ease.

Weddings here unfold across the estate with a sense of continuity. Ceremonies for up to 200 guests can be held outdoors, where the surrounding countryside becomes part of the experience, before guests move through to drinks and the early evening. The transition into dinner feels unforced, with spaces that adapt easily between open-air dining and covered alternatives should the weather require it. The flow of the day is designed to feel gradual, moving from one moment to the next without interruption.

Accommodation is a defining part of the experience. With 22 hotel rooms sleeping up to 55 guests, alongside 20 glamping tents accommodating a further 40, the estate allows a large proportion of guests to stay on site. It creates a layered atmosphere across the weekend โ€“ mornings that begin slowly, shared spaces that remain active beyond the wedding day, and a sense that the celebration extends well beyond a single evening.

Castello di Petrata is offered on an exclusive-use basis, ensuring the estate remains entirely private throughout the stay. Catering is managed in house, allowing the dining experience to sit naturally within the rhythm of the venue, from early evening drinks through to the final course of dinner.

For UK guests, Perugia Airport is just twenty-five minutes away, making travel relatively straightforward while still delivering a sense of immersion in the Umbrian countryside. The surrounding area offers a natural backdrop for a longer stay, with Assisi and the wider region within easy reach.

Castello di Petrata is calm, expansive and quietly confident. It suits couples who want a destination wedding that feels rooted in landscape and shared experience โ€“ somewhere guests can stay, settle and move through the celebration together, with a sense of ease that carries across the entire weekend.

What Couples Say

We hosted our wedding at Castello di Petrata in August 2020 (we’re extremely lucky, we know!). Words really cannot describe how perfect everything was throughout our stay, and all of our guests couldn’t stop talking about the fantastic time they had at the Castello.

The venue is absolutely gorgeous (traditional Italian chic, overlooking the most beautiful view of Assisi and the Umbrian valley), and being able to host our wedding (and a pizza party the day before) within the Castello’s beautiful grounds made it all feel like a dream.

What Couples Say

“Excellent in every way. The staff are wonderful and the location excellent. We can’t think of a better venue for a wedding and we will certainly return for holiday very soon. The food was delightful and the building itself very atmospheric”
