What's So Special About Mas Palou?
Mas Palou | A family-run vineyard estate rooted in the Penedรจs countryside
Tucked into the Penedรจs wine region, just 40 minutes south of Barcelona, Mas Palou is the kind of place that feels quietly lived in rather than staged. A family home since the 14th century, the estate is surrounded by organic vineyards and olive groves that still shape daily life here. Wine is made on site, olive oil is pressed from the land, and the rhythm of the seasons remains part of the experience.
Over time, the estate has evolved with care. What began as an agricultural home gradually opened to guests, with two guesthouses converted in the late 1990s. Today, the next generation leads the way – Maria overseeing weddings and events, Anna focusing on winemaking – together shaping a space that balances heritage with a more contemporary, creative energy. Alongside celebrations, the estate hosts an ongoing art residency and intimate cultural gatherings, adding another layer to its atmosphere.
Weddings at Mas Palou unfold across a series of distinct yet connected spaces. Ceremonies can be set against vineyard views in the main garden, with drinks moving easily through to the courtyard, framed by the faรงade of the house and shaded by mature trees. A second, more intimate garden offers something softer and more tucked away, while the pool area lends itself naturally to slower moments the following day.
Thereโs a sense of history woven throughout – from the family chapel dating back to 1623 to the wine cellar built in 1872 – but nothing feels overly formal. Even the larger spaces hold a certain ease, allowing the day to feel relaxed rather than overly structured. As evening settles, celebrations continue outdoors, with a dedicated dancefloor set beneath open skies.
Accommodation for up to 18 guests keeps a close circle on site, adding to the feeling of staying somewhere personal. The experience is quietly immersive, with the estateโs own wines and olive oil often becoming part of the celebration itself.
With a limited number of weddings each year, Mas Palou retains a sense of balance – never overworked, never overstated. It suits couples drawn to something grounded and atmospheric. A place shaped by family, landscape and time, where celebrations feel considered, warm and entirely unforced.

Transportation
RENFE runs high-speed trains across the country and towns such as Madrid and Barcelona have their own Metro networks. Look for the green light if you want to hail a taxi in the street โ Spanish taxis wont take more than four people at a time and theyโre harder to find on Friday and Saturday nights. Most cities have plenty of buses with tickets available on board or at estancos (tobacconists).
Public Holidays
All the big religious holidays such as Easter and Christmas, as well as Three Kings Day/ Epiphany (6th January), Labour Day (1st May) and Hispanic Day (12th October). Many of the regions have their own local public holidays, such as Balearic Day in the Balearic Islands (1st March).
